My question is pretty simple I think : Why is rigveda divided into the ten mandals? There is also the eightfold division, but what is the reason for these divisions nevertheless?

Namaste Shyena,

For a general discussion on this and related topics, review the chapter of the R.B.B. entitled "A Few Questions and Answers". In particular, Swamiji says this:

Q: What for have the Vedas been divided into Ashtakas, Mandalas, Adhyayas, Suktas, Shatakas, Kandas, Vargas, Dashatis, Trikas, Prapathakas and Anuvakas?

A: For the obvious reason - so that the Vedas may be easily and conveniently studied and taught, and that the verses may be readily calculated and that the context of each topic may easily be understood.

Therefore, it would seem to be a purely utilitarian division.

I mean in the sense HOW?? All I know is that VIIIth mandala contains all mantras related to soma.
