The word "svaagatam" doesn't appear properly to me -
the 'sa' letter doesn't merge into the 'va' letter, and the 'ga' letter should be without the li'l dash beneath it (whatever it is called - never paid attention in classes) |

Hmm, the dash beneath 'ga' symbol is no longer there. Its a browser problem after all...
That's not what i see...
(screenie of your post) This is.
When i saw the little dash beneath the 'ga' too i thought it could be a typo. Right now i'm not on my laptop which has gone for servicing but on desktop which *does* seem to have probs rendering font at times(and is muuuch more powerful than this pc which is p3, 128mb ram running windows xp)
PS: about the dash beneath 'ma', it is what i particularly hate about hindi lipi - just like english, the written form is alien to the oral |

Namaste PD,
Have you made sure your borwser is set to Unicode? That could be the problem.
By the way, how does the font on the current portal post work for you? Do you see the same kind of problems? _________________ Namaste,

all the akshar without any maatraa (therefore conjoined with other akshar) look the same. Yes, the browser is set to unicode - i'm using opera and its auto detect anyway. That's not what causes the problem, its the support by the pc i think.
As wiki has an article for improper rendering of indic texts, i checked there and found out i will need windows xp cd to make the font work properly (and i think you're aware as to why i wont have the cd). On the other hand i found something interesting:
http://www.bhashaindia.com/
I think it directly lets you input devnaagari words without a proxy editor using phonetic or ITRANS input |

Namaste,
I was doing some experimenting and found out that, depending upon which browser you are using, you will get a different impression of some of the details of the forum. For example, the text at the top of the page that PD and I were discussing renders differently in Internet Explorer (1) and FireFox (2):
Also, there are major differences in regards to auto-page justification, scroll-bar displayes, etc. I designed the site to be viewed with IE. Of course, it's up to you which browser you use, just keep in mind that not everything will look as it was intended to. _________________ Namaste,

Namaste Shishya,
Sorry - my net was down for a couple of days. Anyway, I'm using opera but now that you've explained its the difference of browser - thanks, now i can fix the problem by changing the engine for the forums
[i miss the old marquee banner by the way] |
